iPad

Wow! Jailbreaking is legal, this article explains everything but still it voids the customer’s warranty. Apple thinks that we should not jailbreak as it could damage the iDevices resources. That is true to some folks out there who have no experience with jailbreak software or iDevices. The thing is we can modify the iDevice into a better device such as SBSettings, custom ringtones, colour themes, using your iPhone as wifi hotspot and etc.

If you still think jailbreaking is not a very good idea, then don’t jailbreak your iDevice. Keep it original.

We pay a lot of money to get our hands on the iPad and Apple expect us to pay a fee for the update of iOS4. You got to be kidding me. I know last year we had to pay a charge for an update to 3.1 for iPod Touches. If iPad didn’t release in April, we would of having the iPad now in iOS4 version. If they do agree we have to pay an additional charge then we got to do something to make it happening. Paying updates is not fair, we buy iDevices from them and most of us probably buy their AppleCare packages which I don’t as I’m always careful with my devices. Apple has already made enough money for themselves, so why do we have to pay for an update for the iPad? It should be free, unless Steve Jobs add Flash I wouldn’t mind paying the additional charge. If not I wouldn’t be updating it at all, leaving it as 3.2 until it’s free.

SBSettings is a plugin for your iPad which you can enable/disable settings such as Bluetooth, Wifi, Location, Edge, Phone etc. Additionally there is an option for you to respring your iPad, reboot, power off, lock and safe mode.

First you must have your iPad jailbroken to use this plugin.

1) Go to Cydia
2) Search for SBSettings
3) Install the plugin, respring device.
4) Using your finger, swipe across from left to right at the carrier title (iPad).
5) You can make your amendants in the More menu.

If you ever have cracked applications on your iDevice it is highly recommended not to sync via iTunes as you will lose the cracked apps. To retain the apps, first you must sync the data you need on your iDevice. Then later you can install apps via Installous or any other way you prefer. Just remember do NOT sync via iTunes, apps and app data will be deleted from your iDevice.

We have the amazing 1st generation iPad now and there’s a 2nd generation iPad coming out maybe next year. What do you think Apple going to add? Webcam? Flash, if Steve decided to change his mind? Additional ports? TV-Out Enabled? I’m hoping that the next generation iPad should have a built-in webcam and ports. Webcam is convenient for many users such as myself, can use it via instant messengers or take a quick snaps of ourselves. Ports added into the iPad would be a bonus, charging your portable media players or you might have mini USB gadgets. I’m not a fan of Flash so I don’t mind if they have Flash enable or not. I doubt it will happen, as Steve Jobs dislikes the software. As long the media players work fine on Safari, as you may know that some websites have media players built-in such as Windows Media and RealPlayer. It would be ideal to see it happening, for the time being all we see is a blue box with a question mark.

Earlier on I read a news article saying that the next generation iPad going to come in different sizes. This is getting interesting I wonder how much would it cost when it comes out. Not too long yet I think 6-8 months we should hear the announcement from WWDC next year.

What do you think we might have on the next generation?

I thought Facebook will release an app for iPad, I guessed not. It kinda sucks I have to stick with the iPhone version as the text is quite blurry and limited features as I regularly check my pages >> reviews. I can’t check in the iPhone nor iPad, unless I go into the Safari which displays the whole of Facebook. That is good but however flash is disabled on all Apple devices, and not all features can be used. For instance checking how many friends or browsing through a list of friends cannot be done unless searching a specific friend in the search bar. On the Facebook app you cannot view groups, this has to be done on Safari.

iPhone Facebook App (iPad)

So far I have tested a few apps on my iPad some are successful and some arn’t that good.

Backgrounder/ProSwitcher
This app is for switching apps on your iPhone/iTouch originally, not for iPad. If you install this app on your iPad you will receive prompts, leaving your iPad in Safe Mode. Which mean you would need to restart your device. Not recommended to install this app until there is a new update or wait for the next iPad OS update.

Infinidock
An app which lets you place a number of apps in the dock as much as you want. Although when tiling your device to landscape it corrupts the dock. The remaining apps on the right cannot be scrolled even though you tilt it back. Don’t install it until there is a new update for this app.

Winterboard
Winterboard works perfectly fine. Although you need to change the wallpaper on the home screen, it’s quite blurry.

SBSettings
App works fine. Would be nice if they add an iPad size of the SBSettings rather then iPhone/iTouch. Hope the update will come out very soon.

Categories
No bad points about this app. Set your apps in categorized folders in easy steps.

Installous
A great app store when you don’t want to spend chunks of money on apps. The navigation of the app is great, search your apps and download to your device. You can select the app to be install automatically or manually. There is a disadvantage, when you sync your iPad on your Windows/Mac PC your downloaded (Installous) apps will be removed as they are cracked and not approved by Apple AppStore. As long you don’t delete the app in your Installous folder, you can just re-install it again. Although existing game data will also be terminated.

MakeItMine
Changing your carrier’s name or banner works like a charm.
